Tapered roller bearing is suitable for bearing radial load, unidirectional axial load and combined radial and axial load. The axial load capacity of tapered roller bearing depends on the contact angle, that is, the raceway angle of outer ring. The larger the contact angle is, the larger the axial load capacity is. Generally tapered roller bearings are not allowed to have angle error, but the surface of roller and raceway can be allowed to have angle error of 2 ′~ 4 ′ after special design.

Tapered roller bearing single row tapered roller bearing can bear axial load in one direction and limit axial displacement of shaft in one direction relative to bearing seat. Even under the pure radial load, there will be additional axial force in the tapered roller bearing. At this time, an equal amount of reverse force is needed to balance with it.

Generally, two tapered roller bearings with the same structure are used in two supports face-to-face or back-to-back. In order to ensure the good operation of the bearings, the tapered roller bearings, like other ball bearings and roller bearings, must exert a certain amount of load, especially for high-speed, high acceleration, or under the condition of frequent changes in load direction.

Because, under these working conditions, the inertia force of roller and cage and the friction in lubricant will have a bad effect on the rolling and rotating accuracy of the bearing, and there may be harmful sliding movement between roller and raceway.

In general, the weight of the bearing support plus the bearing load has exceeded the required load. If the load has not been achieved, the bearing must be applied with additional radial load, such as axial preloading to meet the load requirements.
